Books

The Zombie Project is my debut novel, a middle-grade eco-thriller published by Chicken House in 2025. It won the Mslexia Children’s Novel Competition in 2023, and turns the typical zombie apocalypse story on its head - what if, to save the world, you had to save the zombies?

'An original idea and an original talent.' CRESSIDA COWELL, AUTHOR OF HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

'[A] gripping and thought-provoking eco-horror.' DAILY MAIL

'Junior horror-lite' OBSERVER

In a world without bees, death-flies are needed to grow food. But death-flies need bodies – lots of them. And bodies mean zombies.

Merian understands this, but others are afraid. Can one girl prove that zombies are the future?

Comics

I’ve been an indie comics writer for over twenty years, working on several long-running webcomics with artist and co-creator Emily Brady. Our comics Footloose, Cherry and Black Market Magic are funny fantasy adventures set in a metafictional world, governed by the rules of story instead of physics.

Footloose follows the story of Keti, the daughter of the Chosen One, who will end up following in her heroic mother’s footsteps whether she likes it or not - so her parents send her to a dojo in the Faerie Realm so she can learn how to defend herself whenever destiny strikes.

Cherry tells the story of Steve, a boy who inherits the powers of a dead magical girl, and has to learn how to control them while dealing with prejudice, schoolyard politics, and the consequences of his own bad decisions.

Black Market Magic introduces Kim, a magical girl who gets her powers against the backdrop of a fascist crackdown on non-mortal beings. Instead of joining the government-approved magical girl squad the Soldiers of Fortune, Kim bands together with weres and fey, and uses her magic to fight fascism.

All of our stories can be read at Footloose Comics.

About Me

When I was little, I was given a giant stack of yellowing scrap paper from the factory where my grandad worked. I started writing stories on it, and didn't stop even when it eventually ran out. Today, I write children's stories and webcomics, as well as admin, pet-sitting, and working at my local library. I love mythology, horror, bad jokes, and fantasy with a bit of a grubby edge, and enjoy bringing all these elements into my writing.

In my spare time, I knit and sew, play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends, and try to get through the Everest-sized pile of books by my bed. I live in Oxfordshire with my husband and two cats, the real-life Jack and Ollie.

I’m currently working on a Norse mythology-inspired YA thriller, Loki’s Brats, which was shortlisted for the inaugural Sustainable Story Award. I’m also on the committee of the Society of Authors’ Comic Creators’ Network, and am a member of the Golden Egg Academy.
